Advantages of Learnerships

Learnerships are defined as the process of equipping students with required practical skills and knowledge in their field of work by exposing them to the workplace and equipment they have been dealing with theoretically so as to ensure that they are trained practically. The learnership programme helps to gain necessary skills that will open up better employment or self-employment opportunities in a world of high competition for jobs. Since students from different learning institutions but taking the same courses get to interact with the company during learnerships, they sharpen their social life skills by helping each other and doing duties together thus helping to grow confidence in what they do.

Before the beginning of the leadership programme, a contract is drawn up by the employer, the learner, and the learning provider to set the terms and conditions which will protect all the parties involved during the course of the programme. Learnership leads to acquisition of training skills which can help them perform effectively at their work place since the practical exposure is easy to remember as compared to theoretical knowledge. Learnership programmes are important because they help to improve the productivity of students who get practical skills that they can apply at places of work and therefore resources can be utilized fully. After a learnership programme and later on completion of the course being taken by the student, he/she is eligible for further studies but within the same field of specialization.

Another impact of the programme on the student is that they become responsible employees later on and they can work under minimal supervision because the employer is confident in their ability to apply the practical skills they acquired during the programme. These programmes also provide the opportunity to obtain a higher level of competence that enhances marketability and employment opportunities. Learners get motivated to become better workers when they successfully solve problems in the field and this motivation when carried on to a time when they are employed means that their performance is to the maximum of their ability which is of great influence to the business in a positive way. In the process of getting skills while undergoing a learnership program, the student gets to do a lot of practical activities in the field and since there are many students during a given time, the end result is that the company will benefit since most of its tasks are completed. The programme will provide an opportunity for the employer-employee relationship to grow and in the process, the employer can be able to select a number of learners who can be useful in the growth of the company as per their good performance during the programme.
